TYPES OF FINISH

Gloss: very shiny and reflective.

Semi-Gloss: Reduced shiny and partly reflective. A popular choice.

Lo-Sheen: A dull and flat like finish. A very common finish

Matt:A flattish finish with reduced depth to the wood’s grain and structure. Compares to an oiled look.

The choice of a good finish should be carefully considered and chosen against the benefits and disadvantages which come with each finish. Factors such as area, amount of sunlight, foot traffic, and living situation will all need to be considered.

RECOATING / MAINTENANCE

The process includes that we first lightly sand back the floor area with our special sanding equipment, followed by a thorough vacuum cleaning procedure and finally the application of either 1 or 2 coats of either Moisture Cured Solvent Based Polyurethane or Water Borne Polyurethane, or an oil based finish such as offered by Pallmann or other performing brands

Types of Coats

TYPES OF COATSMOISTURE CURED POLYURETHANE VS WATER BORNE POLYURETHANE

Moisture cured Polyurethane coats are an effective and economical coating solution in many new construction and refurbishment applications. It is an extremely tough, flexible and hard wearing clear, high gloss finish whilst more durable and moisture resistant than other surface finishes. Curing of this type of finish is by absorbing minute quantities of moisture vapour from the air, which causes them to dry and harden. However during the application and drying process, it produces toxic emissions. Therefore we do recommend vacating the property for 24 – 36 hours before returning.

As the name indicates, it cures by absorbing moisture from the air. Initially the smell is intense but will dissipate within 24 hours after application. It pays to allow a few days to achieve full cure before dragging anything across the floor. Moisture-cured polyurethane coats come in non-yellowing and in ambering types.

The benefits of Moisture-cure urethane are the ability to apply independently of the weather (temperature, humidity and dew point); meanwhile it dries quickly and is surface tolerant. In addition, the coatings remain elastic and resistant to UV radiation to provide long term durability. The major plus is in the long term durability. Regular re-coating every 3-7 years depending on the levels of usage will ensure the floor will last forever.

Water borne Polyurethane is non-smelling, non-toxic, non-yellowing and only takes up to 4 hours to dry -weather conditions dependant. Where applicable we believe the application of a waterbourne option is another excellent choice as a viable alternative for homes and buildings along with natural timber oils.

Weather dependant, a Waterbourne Polyurethane is non-smelling, non-toxic, non-yellowing and only takes up to 4 hours to dry. It consists of a blend of synthetic resins, plasticizers and other film forming ingredients that produces a durable surface that is moisture-resistant. Finishes are clear and non-yellowing and are different sheen levels. They have a milder odour than oil-modified finishes and tend to be a little bit more expensive than Moisture curing polyurethane
