BENEFITS OF TIMBER FLOORING

A floor that entirely made of wood, preferably hardwood has always been used as a favourite flooring material of most home owners because of its beauty, durability, and beauty. And now that timber floors have become a bit more affordable than they were before, a lot of people are considering changing their floors.

Our solid timber flooring is usually 13mm, 19mm and 21mm thick, with widths varying from a 65mm wide board to 220mm wide.

Reasons why timber is so widely used as a flooring material:

a)It is easy to clean – unlike carpets, it is easy to clean timber floors.

b)You do not have to vacuum it every day, just a light sweeping and the occasional mopping will do. Dust particles and pet hairs will not have anything to hold onto on smooth timber floors, this is great news for people with allergies.

c)You also do not have to worry about stains when someone spills wine or juice on your floors as long as it is wiped up immediately.

d)It gets more beautiful as time passes – The great thing about having wood as a flooring material is that it can actually get more beautiful the older it gets. Even though there will be an occasional scratch or gouge on the surface of the floorboards, they add character to your home; and if you want to, you can always get a timber floor polishing come over to get rid of the damage and restore your floors to its original beauty.

e)It is beautiful – Timber floors come in many different shades and colours, you just need to choose the one that fits in with the décor of the room; whatever kind of wooden flooring you get, you can be sure that it will only enhance the beauty of your home if anything else

Types of Sub Floors

a)Floor boards on Plywood: Boards will be glued and nailed on plywood directly to the levelled concrete surface, then applying the timber by secret nailing and gluing.

b)Floor boards on Concrete: A moisture vapour barrier will be applied to the levelled slab, maybe twice according to the moisture level of the concrete. Timber is then glued with powerful industrial quality adhesives and "weighted" while glue cures. Additional nails may be applied.

c)Floor boards on Joists: This is where battens or joists are fixed to the levelled concrete - and the timber is then nailed to the battens/joists. For better stability we nail boards from the top also

SUB FLOOR PREPARATION

Before we are able to install your floor, we need to check the sub floor level and moisture content as well as inside of your home to insure your flooring will stay firm and secure without warping, cupping, swelling or splitting apart. Please remember the preparation of your sub floor is a key factor to a good result and will be a more secure outcome for the timber once its laid.

Concrete slabs in new homes and sometimes older homes can often be too moist to lay timber - or for that matter any other floor covering. Your concrete will be tested using a commercial moisture meter. The floor preparation will take one day, to ensure the barrier is dry and workable. Often, your concrete sub-floor will not be completely level. Before a timber floor is laid, we will level your floor using a floor levelling compound.

UNDER-CUTTING OF DOOR FRAMES, FITTINGS, SKIRTINGS AND MOULDINGS

Most new installations require a precise under-cutting of certain door frames, skirting boards, mouldings and fittings. We provide this service as part of our preparation work before the actual installation begins
